![]() ![]() ![]() 004" clearence on them, and looked completly thrashed. I replaced the main bearings because they had. Last summer I put new rings in my engine because it was guzzling oil. I even tried switching the rockers with another cylinder. It doesn't seem to behave this way when I go to any other cylinder and do the same thing, at least, nothing that I can hear. This is the lifter pair that I replaced (they're the tie bar type). ![]() It gets a tiny bit quieter if I tighten them down a bit. When I go to cylinder #5 and loosen the adjusting nuts on the intake or exhaust rocker, or both, the noise gets louder. When I give it light throttle, it gets louder, and until about 70 mph, it stays pretty pronounced.ĭoes this sound sound like worn cam bearings? If not, what exactly does worn cam bearings sound like? Thanks!ĮDIT: Forgot to mention that this is a hydraulic roller cam. The noise is very prominant at idle, especially from inside the car with the hood down and doors shut with windows up. Oil pressure is good, but the needle kinda jumps a bit, and it seems to jive with the noise. Initially, I thought the sound was a bad lifter, but when I replace the suspect lifters, the sound got a bit louder and the metallic clanking came in (it wasn't there perviously). The "rap rap rap rap" has a hint of metallic clanking in it (very small amount). My car is making this rapping sound at half engine speed. I have reason to believe my cam bearings are worn.
